"Fix-It for Families"
low-cost auto repair for families in need

Newgate Education Center believes that reliable transportation is key to a successful transition into the workforce. Because car repair costs are skyrocketing, people in poverty may abandon otherwise good cars because they can't afford the costs of repairing them. That is why the school is now offering low-cost auto repair to qualifying working families.

The goal is to repair and service cars for families who meet the needs criteria. Most clients will pay only for the cost of the parts and supplies needed to repair their vehicles. Labor will be provided at no cost.

This service will be a resource for nonprofit agencies that are currently providing support services to clients who are also in need of auto repair.

Repairs will be done by Newgate students who are participating in our auto-mechanics certification program. These students will learn auto-mechanics skills by repairing clients’ vehicles under the direction of our professional mechanics staff. And families in need will have reliable transportation at low cost, enabling them to get to jobs, medical appointments, and to child care at little cost to them.

This new car repair service will supplement the Wheels program which has provided approximately 50 cars per year to low-income moms as they move into the workforce.

Newgate Education Center receives no grants, government subsidies, or tax money. The school refurbishes and sells donated cars to pay its operating expenses.

Call (612) 378-0177 to make a donation. Donators receive the maximum amount of tax deduction, FAIR MARKET VALUE, when donating better quality cars. To find out more about Newgate, contact us.
